The UN has never and will never be effective. It's a total waste of American taxpayer dollars to keep paying for a building that houses useless bureaucrats. They would better serve American to close it up and send it to France. Then turn the building into an old folks home.

I doubt it. I wish they would just shut it down.

I fear no. The US and the UK destroyed the functional capabilities of the UN when they invaded Iraq when the UN disapproved. It acts little more than a pressure group.
I think Anan had his good points, but I know little of this new guy to compare him with. I do feel that the UN is so ineffective though, that it is not really so important.
War does not determine who is right, war determines who is left.

The UN has no power at all. Anything the US doesn't like, they just veto no matter how many votes for the resolution come from other countries.
I reject your reality and substitute my own

Above all, I would teach him to tell the truth ... Truth-telling, I have found, is the key to responsible citizenship. The thousands of criminals I have seen in 40 years of law enforcement have had one thing in common: Every single one was a liar. [JE Hoover]

Which is what makes the UN an undemocratic organisation. It reduces it to a mere soap box for overpaid diplomats to vent just hot air. The UN doesn't actually achieve anything.
